Oct 8 - Breathing for Wellbeing
Breathing for Wellbeing is a project bringing you simple and accessible breathing sessions to help people rediscover the power of the breath. The session will focus on its impact on managing health, preventing illness, and living happier, more fulfilling lives.
Join WMCollege, adult education college, and artist and researcher Dr Joana Monteiro for a welcoming, hands-on textile workshop exploring identity, memories and belonging through fabric. Inspired by the community quilt Portrait(s) of Camden, exhibited during the whole month of October at Holborn Library, as part of the Bloomsbury Festival, participants will create a small fabric portrait using simple appliqué and collage techniques—no sewing experience is needed.
As you make, you will be invited to reflect on the people, places and experiences that have shaped you, sharing stories and conversations in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Your portrait can become part of the growing Portrait(s) of Camden quilt, a collaborative artwork celebrating the rich diversity, creativity and connections of people across the borough.
Throughout the day, experienced quilters from WMCollege will quilt participants' portraits live, giving visitors the opportunity to watch the quilting process up close and see the artworks become part of the collective quilt.
All materials are provided, participation is free, and everyone is welcome.
Please book your preferred arrival time. The workshop is drop-in and you are welcome to stay for as long as you like until 4:30 pm. If all places are booked, feel free to come along anyway—we will welcome walk-in participants whenever space is available.

Hosted by Matt Chambers and Karen Taylor - co-founders of North London Whisky Club and the award-winning Whisky For Everyone website.
We will be entering the world of peaty and smoky whisky. It is the perfect way to celebrate the onset of Autumn as the temperatures drop and the nights pull in. We will take you through five whiskies that demonstrate many of the key factors that make smoky whiskies so unique in flavour and popular.
From the new wave of innovative distillers to the traditional smoky heartland of Islay in Scotland (and several stops in between), we will explore this expressive set of whiskies. Learn a bit of the history and information about each brand or distillery that you are tasting from your experienced hosts.
The tasting will take place at The Duke of St. Albans, a fabulous pub on the edge of Hampstead Heath, NW5. This is 15 minutes walk from both Archway and Kentish Town underground stations (Northern Line / High Barnet branch). Several local bus routes also stop nearby - 88, 214 and C11.
The tasting will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

Oct 26 - Unity Folk Club
Torriano Meeting House is the current residence of Unity Folk Club. The central point of the club is to help to keep political folk singing alive, which is particularly necessary in the present climate.
Unity was the left-wing theatre in Mornington Crescent that specialised in socialist theatre, famous for its political pantomimes and living newspapers and for being at the heart of the militant national theatre movement in the 1930s.
The folk club had to move after fires shut the Theatre. Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson were two famous singers connected with the Unity Theatre.
Everybody welcome, especially singers and poets who sing or read against war, capitalism, exploitation, privatisation, imperialism and globalisation.
Every last Monday of the month.
Join us this Green Libraries Week at 5 Pancras Square Library!
